why we use natural clays in our handmade self-care products
Approximately 1 million tons of tiny plastic fibers get released into wastewater each year (Earthday, 2018)... yes you read that right! You’re probably wondering what microplastics have to do with the cosmetic and personal care industry. Unfortunately, many skincare products such as exfoliating scrubs, shower gels, facial cleansers and even toothpaste, contain microplastics!
These products are used and then washed down the drain, where microplastics then travel through our sewage systems and get processed in wastewater treatment plants. Although these plants do their best to remove plastic particles from the water, microplastics tend to be so minuscule that they cannot be filtered out and thus enter into our bodies of water.
Microplastics are harmful to animal life, humans and our environment as a whole. I think we can all agree that the use of mircoplastics must stop! Especially when there are alternative ingredients that can be used to replace their function.
Our personal care products are handcrafted in small batches with high quality ingredients. We use natural clays as colourants, exfoliants and for their respective beneficial properties.
Let's take a deep dive into our clays and exfoliants that we use to create our nourishing self-care products at Diphy Wellness.
